PCB Byrne has today announced two leadership appointments that mark the next stage in the firm’s strategic development: the promotion of Trevor Mascarenhas to Senior Partner, and the appointment of Bruce Macmillan as Operating Partner. The announcements follow Anthony Riem’s completion of his five-year term as Senior Partner. Anthony remains at PCB Byrne, where he will continue to focus on his stellar practice and contribute to the growth and success of the firm.

Managing Partner, Sara Teasdale, comments on the announcements: ‘I want to thank Anthony for everything he has done as Senior Partner. His leadership over the past five years has been instrumental in shaping the firm we are today, and we are very fortunate that his expertise and commitment remain very much part of our future. Trevor’s promotion is recognition of everything he has given this firm, and in Bruce we welcome a leader whose experience and values are perfectly aligned with where we are headed. We are entering a strategic growth stage, and both of these appointments reflect exactly that.’

Trevor’s promotion is of little surprise for those familiar with him and the firm. Trevor has spent his entire career at what is now PCB Byrne, he has built over two decades as a partner into one of the most respected practices in civil fraud and international asset recovery. Consistently ranked Band 1 by Chambers & Partners, Trevor has been described as ‘one of the outstanding intellectuals in the sector – a brilliant mind’. He has led ground-breaking cases that have shaped the law in this field, from establishing the English Court’s jurisdiction to grant search orders against third parties, to securing landmark judgments on cross-examination of asset disclosure.

Trevor’s reflection on the promotion: ‘This firm has always been built on the ambition to do the most challenging work at the highest level. Being appointed Senior Partner is an honour I take seriously and I’m excited to play an even bigger role in driving what comes next for PCB Byrne.’

Alongside Trevor’s promotion, the firm has appointed Bruce Macmillan as Operating Partner. This is a newly founded position that reflects PCB Byrne’s focus on building the infrastructure to support its next phase of growth. Bruce brings nearly 30 years of legal and leadership experience, having served as General Counsel, Company Secretary, COO and Head of Regulatory, Compliance & Insurance at a legal and financial services group, as well as nine years in law firm leadership. A trained mediator with a strong track record in governance and strategic transformation, he joins the firm with a clear brief: to strengthen its foundations as it scales.

‘PCB Byrne has outstanding capability and real ambition. My focus will be on supporting our people and working alongside the rest of the partnership to ensure that as the firm grows, it does so with the same purpose that defines everything PCB Byrne does.’

Both Trevor and Bruce take up their new roles with immediate effect, and the firm looks forward to the contribution each will make in the chapters ahead.
