A commercial litigator, Rachel advises clients across multi-jurisdictional disputes in court proceedings and international arbitration – with a particular focus on asset recovery and the cross-border enforcement of judgments and awards, including injunctive relief.

Recognised in the directories as the ‘consummate professional’, Rachel came to PCB Byrne from a London City firm, where she gained deep experience in commercial, fraud, regulatory and insurance matters, particularly with regard to finance and international trade.

  • For Ms Tatiana Akhmedova in the worldwide enforcement of one of the UK’s largest-ever divorce awards, including the recent trial of s.423 claims in England and obtaining a series of injunctive orders culminating in a disclosure ruling against Google LLC in the US and a search order of prime London residential property.
  • For Mr Walid Giahmi in successfully challenging the jurisdiction of the English court in one of a series of claims and threatened future claims against Mr Giahmi and a number of major Western banks, alleging that investments were made by the Libyan Investment Authority (“the LIA”) with those banks due to Mr Giahmi paying bribes to LIA employees.
  • For the Azzouz Group in claims against insurers and others following the occupation of industrial facilities in Syria by insurgents from 2012.
  • For the UK subsidiary of Beijing-based petrochemical giant in the successful defence of allegations of conspiracy and interference with contractual relations under New Jersey law.
  • For an FCA-registered FX broker/technology provider and related individuals in defence of a USD $400 million commercial fraud claim brought by BVI investment funds.
  • For a Chinese entity in enforcing a Chinese arbitral award in London under New York Convention in relation to a USD $5 million CIETAC arbitral award and public policy defences of fraud and double-recovery.
  • For a commodity house in arbitration claims worth USD $40 million for breach of three contracts for cargoes destined for Iran, involving injunctive relief in London, criminal actions in the UAE, and associated actions in Iran.
Background
Rachel qualified as a lawyer in England and Wales in 2013 and has international experience working in Athens and Piraeus. She has an MA in Classics from Oriel College, Oxford.
