Ed is the firm’s Head Paralegal, with over 25 years’ experience in criminal law. He has particular expertise in cases involving substantial electronic evidence and the use of e-discovery platforms.

Ed regularly assists clients facing multi-million-pound fraud investigations and prosecutions. He also works on cases involving regulatory offences and civil fraud, confiscation proceedings and general crime.

  • Wickes: SFO prosecution relating to £53 million overstatement of profits.
  • Ikea: SFO prosecution regarding supplier corruption case.
  • Prudential: Major corruption prosecution relating to the Pensions Review.
  • Operation Devout: £37.5 million MTIC fraud.
  • iSOFT: Successful defence of former iSOFT director on a market abuse conspiracy charge.
  • Operation Autovia: Multi-million-pound conspiracy to defraud VAT and income tax.
  • A seven-jurisdiction trust dispute concerning USD $500 million of trust assets.
  • Operation Amazon: Carbon credit scheme, brought by HMRC, with alleged intended losses of £107 million in sideways tax loss relief, including complex multi-jurisdictional company structures.
Background
Ed joined Byrne and Partners LLP at its inception in 2003, having previously worked at Dechert LLP and Claude Hornby and Cox – a highly respected high street criminal practice. He is a former committee member of the Young Fraud Lawyers association.
